Dr Muneera Bano is a Principal Research Scientist and Science Team Lead at CSIRO’s Data61. She leads high impact projects that support the responsible and ethical adoption of artificial intelligence in real world settings. Her work focuses on inclusive AI engineering, ensuring that AI systems are designed, deployed and governed to be fair, trustworthy and beneficial across diverse communities and industries. Muneera completed her PhD in Software Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney. She is a strong advocate for STEM and equitable technology and has been recognised as the 2019 Most Influential Asian Australian Under 40 and selected as a Superstar of STEM by Science and Technology Australia. In 2024 she was a finalist in the Women in AI APAC Awards for AI in Social Good and the Trailblazer Award for Women of Colour in STEM.
